Shetland’s 900 crofting and farming businesses should apply for the Scottish Government agricultural loan, says Isles MSP Tavish Scott.
Speaking as Agriculture Minister Fergus Ewing made another emergency statement to the Scottish Parliament on the £178 million Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) payment scheme, Tavish said:
“Many people have no faith that the grotesquely expensive government computer will ever work. The Minister would not be making a loan available to every crofter if he had confidence on his £178 million IT system. So the loan is sensible and I urge all crofters and farmers to apply for the loan. People should receive a letter this week or next asking them to apply. Please do. The alternative is to trust an IT system that failed earlier this year. That is too great a risk.”
