Shetland MSP Tavish Scott has highlighted the Scottish Government’s consultation on a Demonstration & Research Marine Protected Area (D&R MPA) proposal ahead of the deadline for submissions later this week.
The consultation, which consists of five questions, closes this Thursday, 26th May and could result in dedicated research being carried out into the Fair Isle seabird population and fish stock.
Commenting as he submitted his own response to the consultation, Tavish Scott said:
“Members of the Fair Isle Environment & Tourism Initiative have worked hard with the organisation’s partners to get this consultation off the ground. If taken forward, the D&R MPA will help us to understand more about changes to wildlife on Fair Isle and help the community preserve the important tourism opportunity this wildlife offers.
“Public consultations rely on participation and I hope that many people across Shetland will submit their views ahead of the deadline tomorrow.”
