Shetland MSP Tavish Scott has been crowned a Scottish Sporting Champion by the Scottish Sports Association (SSA).
The SSA represents the numerous Scottish Governing Bodies across a range of sports. In the lead up to May’s Scottish elections Tavish signed up to the SSA’s VoteforSport campaign, committing to recognise the unique role, value and potential of sport across Scotland.
At an event in the Scottish Parliament, Tavish commented:
“Sport is so important to Shetland and we have produced some fantastic athletes. The recent Rio Games have inspired more people to get active and I hope clubs across the islands will benefit from that.
“With the nights drawing in it can be tempting to stay at home. Getting involved in something locally is good for our health and our communities.”
Kim Atkinson, CEO of the Scottish Sports Association, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Tavish Scott MSP as a Scottish Sporting Champion. We hope that our Scottish Sporting Champion MSPs will help us to raise the importance of sport and for the vital work of our members to continue to be recognised and prioritised throughout this Parliamentary term.”
