Tavish encourages young people to run for Scottish Youth Parliament

Tavish has called on young people to consider standing for the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP).

Prospective candidates aged 14-25 can now register their interest on the SYP website ahead of the elections due to be held in March 2017.

The elected candidates will become Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs), representing Shetland at sittings of the Scottish Youth Parliament in different locations across Scotland across the year. Shetland’s current MSYPs are Kaylee Mouat and Kelvin Anderson, elected in 2015 by over 1000 young people across the islands.

Commenting, Tavish Scott said:

“The elections to be Shetland’s MSYPs are a great opportunity to make the difference for young people across the islands. I have enjoyed working with Kaylee and Kelvin who have been excellent representatives for Shetland in the Scottish Youth Parliament. I encourage young Shetlanders to give these elections a go and get involved. The Scottish Youth Parliament is an invaluable way for MSPs to learn and understand the views of young people. Parliament is better for that perspective.”
