As the Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesperson for education, Tavish is calling for a review of the Scottish Government's Transition Training Fund after it emerged that a scheme to retrain oil workers as teachers supported by the fund had aided just twelve workers since it launched last year.
The Scottish Government launched the Transition Training Scheme in June 2016 to help former oil and gas workers get back into work.
“Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City have more than 100 teacher vacancies. 120,000 people have lost their jobs in the oil and gas industry, yet the Scottish Government have found just twelve people to retrain as teachers.
“It is essential that this scheme must be reviewed as it is not achieving anything like the transition into teaching hoped for.”
