Essential financial information detailing payments made under the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) will not be issued to crofters until late November, it has been revealed.
In a response to a question from Tavish Scott MSP, Agricultural Minister Fergus Ewing MSP admitted, “Letters detailing payments under the 2015 Basic Payment Scheme will start to be issued from late November and will go out in batches over the following weeks.”
A senior Scottish Government official previously told Tavish Scott the letters would be sent in October. Tavish has now lodged further parliamentary questions asking whether the Scottish Government was able to meet its deadline to fulfil all outstanding payments by the middle of October.
“This is yet more mismanagement from the government over vital crofters payments.
“I told the Scottish Government officials back in September that these letters are incredibly important to crofters. They need to know what payments have been made and when. If crofters have not received what they believe they are due then it is important that they can appeal as soon as possible. The delay in the issuing of this formal government letter is unacceptable.”
