Charlie Haddon and Sonny Thomason have been elected to represent Shetland’s young people at the Scottish Youth Parliament. The results of the election were announced earlier today at Isleburgh Community Centre, with 1059 people taking part in the vote.
Shetland saw the highest online turnout in Scotland, with 28.76% of young people taking part. Sonny and Charlie fought off competition from Dannii Coleman, Lewis Johnson and Carys Nield.
Commenting after the result, Shetland MSP Tavish Scott said:
“Carys, Dannii, Lewis, Sonny and Charlie deserve huge congratulations for putting themselves forward for election. It is not easy. Someone has to win so well done to Sonny and Charlie. They have big shoes to step into as Kaylee and Kelvin have been great ambassadors for Shetland in Scotland’s Youth Parliament. I look forward to working with our newly elected MSYPs for Shetland’s young people when they take up their roles.”
