Tavish calls for three year funding for Voluntary Action Shetland

Tavish has today called on the Scottish Government to introduce a more stable funding system for voluntary organisations.

During today’s Portfolio Questions, Tavish highlighted the challenges faced by Voluntary Action Shetland and other organisations who are yet to receive confirmation of their funding past June. Noting the difficulties this causes with long-term planning, Tavish asked Communities Secretary Angela Constance to consider introducing a more stable three-year funding formula.

Commenting afterwards, Tavish Scott said:

“Voluntary Action Shetland provides an important service to the islands. It cannot be right that staff working for voluntary organisations do not know about their funding from one year to the next. This does not help deliver the services that make such a difference to so many people.

“It is encouraging that the Cabinet Secretary recognises the benefits of a longer-term funding plan. I will continue to press ministers to ensure this becomes a reality.”
