Scottish Government to look again at Shetland agriculture fodder transport costs

During a Parliamentary economy debate today Shetland MSP, Tavish Scott, secured a commitment from Deputy First Minister John Swinney to look again at the extra costs local farmers and crofters face due to the weather that has caused such problems for the industry this year.

Tavish Scott said, "The DFM agrees that the islands have faced real agriculture problems. So I want the government to accept the Shetland NFU's argument that we need assistance with the extra costs that our producers face in bringing hay and straw to Shetland.

"I am pleased that John Swinney has agreed to look into this and I hope that we can see some new assistance with freight costs. "
