Scott welcomes FM looking into HIAL airport charges

Shetland MSP Tavish Scott today welcomed a commitment by the First Minister to look into the issue of car parking charges at Sumburgh Airport. Highlands and Islands Airports Limited’s (HIAL) have announced parking charges at Sumburgh, Kirkwall and Stornoway airports without any consultation.

Raising the issue, Tavish Scott asked the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon whether she would look into the issue and reverse the decision.

In response the First Minister admitted the decision to introduce the charges without consultation was “remiss”, and she committed to looking into the issue.

Commenting after the exchanges, Tavish Scott said:

“The public backlash to this deplorable decision shows the depth of feeling there is about this.

“I welcome the First Minister’s commitment today to look into this issue, and I will continue to press both HIAL and the Scottish Government to reverse this decision.”

Archived videos from FMQ’s appear here several hours after they have ended.

A petition to reverse the airport parking charges, which has attracted over 1,000 signatures can be found here.
