Commenting on an economic assessment of seafood to Shetland economy Shetland MSP Tavish Scott said,
"Shetland, Scotland and the UK are £351 million a year stronger because of our local seafood industries. That is enormous contribution to the local and national economies. Government in Edinburgh rightly promote food and drink for their growing importance. So we need government to support the enormous contribution Shetland makes."
Tavish Scott today met representatives of the seafood industry, freight companies and businesses to discuss the new contract for Shetland's ferry links to Aberdeen. He added, "There can be no more important issue than transport. Government must ensure that our seafood can be delivered to customers on time, in good condition and at a competitive price. That will allow the Shetland seafood industry to grow from the £351m a year it is already worth."
