Commenting on the SIC's proposals to reduce the number of subjects available to senior pupils in secondary education Shetland MSP Tavish Scott said,
"Giving Shetland's young people the best choices into work and life is a very important part of Shetland education. I strongly support the new academies that will give career options in engineering, caring and the building industry much earlier in school life. Shetland's Learning Partnership is right to make sure that vocational education is very bit as important as university. Shetland needs both.
"Many parents and teachers were concerned by previous proposals to reduce the choice of subjects pupils can take in the senior years of secondary schools. So the SIC is right to consult on this and listen carefully to mums and dads who want to make sure their children have the best opportunity in life."
