Shetland’s lifeline ferry services will be re-tendered following an announcement made today in Holyrood by the Scottish Transport Minister. The new contract must be in place by October 2019.
Speaking today in the Scottish Parliament Shetland MSP Tavish Scott said,
“The uncertainty over our lifeline ferry services has now ended. The Scottish Government have taken the right decision. Serco Northlink have proved both adaptable and flexible in meeting the needs of passengers and Shetland’s economy. They have particularly recognised the need to ensure Shetland’s £300 million seafood industry can always export to Aberdeen with minimum disruption.Read more
Shetland MSP Tavish Scott today welcomed a commitment by the First Minister to look into the issue of car parking charges at Sumburgh Airport. Highlands and Islands Airports Limited’s (HIAL) have announced parking charges at Sumburgh, Kirkwall and Stornoway airports without any consultation.
Northern Isles MSPs Tavish Scott and Liam McArthur have today condemned Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd’s (HIAL) decision to introduce a £3-per day parking charge at Stornoway, Kirkwall and Sumburgh airports. The charges are set to be introduced during the busy summer season.
Shetland MSP Tavish Scott today warned that the agriculture industry could suffer as a consequence of the UK leaving the European Union. His comments come as Scotland's Rural College researchers concluded that after looking at three possible economic scenarios as a result of Brexit, all three situations saw agriculture suffering and farmers ending up worse off.
