Islanders urged to take part in consultation on 4G "notspots"

Shetland MSP Tavish Scott is calling on islanders fed up with poor mobile coverage to take part in a Scottish consultation on 4G "notspots".

The Government is consulting on 100 potential sites to be included in a programme to deploy 4G to areas without any mobile network coverage. There are 2 potential sites identified in Shetland, one in Foula and one on the Westside, and members of the public are invited to provide evidence of other notspots for consideration.

Tavish Scott said:

“We all know how inconsistent mobile signal in Shetland is, but many mobile phone companies see no business case for providing coverage in the isles so it is vital that Shetland sites be included for consideration in this rollout.

“4G is not only increasingly necessary for keeping in touch and accessing services but could also allow some in more rural areas to access high speed internet.

“I encourage everyone struggling to get the network coverage they need to tell the Government exactly where the problem spots are.”

The Consultation is open now and runs until the 8th of October 2018 and is available here.
