Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Tavish Scott today called on the Scottish Government to work more closely with farmers when taking decisions over the reintroduction of wild animal species in Scotland.
Mr Scott’s intervention follows calls from the National Farmers Union of Scotland for Ministers and Scottish Natural Heritage to give a clear steer to farmers, crofters and land managers over their future plans in this area.
Commenting, Mr Scott said:
“The Scottish Government's approach is entirely piece meal. Making major decisions on reintroducing sea eagles and other species needs to be part of an overall approach. That must include discussions with people who love and work in the areas affected.
“Not many crofters who have lost lambs to sea eagles think they are a great step forward. But their views were ignored by the government who always know best.”
