Croft House Grant Scheme is a helpful step says Tavish Scott MSP

Commenting on changes to the Croft House Grant Scheme, Shetland MSP Tavish Scott said,

“Building costs in Shetland are higher than the Scottish mainland. So this is a helpful step but Shetland’s crofters have argued for a greater recognition of the actual cost of building in the islands.

“It would have been better to have had a separate and higher housing grant rate for the islands. The remaining issue is financial help from banks for self-build mortgages. This remains a real challenge. All banks should reintroduce this as it proved to be a safe and secure way to encourage people to build in the outlying areas of Shetland.”
